They say love finds you when you least expect it. That's exactly what happened to us.

It started with "hey..." on 19 May 2018 when we met in Koh Samui, Thailand.

Dea's POV

3 weeks after our first meeting we stayed in touch. I invited him for my birthday on 9 June 2018, he came to visit me and it was amazing. We were exactly the same, had the same views and values, really felt like we were partners for life.

Jack's POV

It was a wonderful time during the birthday party. We spent time getting to know each other. The time flew by and it felt right from the beginning. Before we knew it, there were only two of us left. I felt like I had found my soulmate.

Day by Day

We have been in a long-distance relationship since 10 June 2018. Jack lives in the Netherlands and Dea lives in Germany. We spend hours on the phone or video call each other on WhatsApp almost every day.

We try to visit each other regularly once a month. It is always worth the effort to see each other and spend some time together. We visit places, travel together and make a lot of good memories.

Our long distance relationship is like sunrise and sunset. We have had breaks, fights, arguments. But we always try to make the best of it. Jack proposed to Dea last year. And we're getting married on 19 May 2023. [ps: Believe it or not, we didn't plan it on purpose, but somehow our wedding date is exactly the day we met

The truth is, it's hard to make things work. LDRs are rollercoasters. You have to be very brave and lucky to make it through. It's not always easy, but it's so incredibly worth it - and ultimately making the choice every day to invest in your relationship because it's worth having this person in your life, even if you can't be together physically.

The things that a long distance relationship teaches us are perseverance and resilience. It teaches us communication skills and how to deal with conflict. It teaches us patience, appreciation and the value of an imperfect relationship.
